Fresno is one of those places where it can feel like there’s never anything to do for date night. Most of the time it feels like dinner and a movie are your only options for date night. However, that is simply not the case. Fresno has a lot to offer! Here are five date night ideas you and your partner can enjoy.
MB2 Raceway
Indoor go-kart racing for adults? Yes please. If you have a need for speed, you’re going to love this! MB2 offers high-speed race simulation with a challenging indoor road course. But be careful. The karts are capable of reaching speeds up to 45 mph! If you and your significant other are competitive and Mario Kart just isn’t cutting it anymore, you should take a trip to MB2. A single 14 Lap Adult Race is $23.
Forestiere’s Underground Garden
Baldassare Forestiere moved to Fresno from Sicily, Italy in 1901 to pursue his dreams of becoming a citrus farmer. In his spare time, he created this amazing underground world with nothing more than a pick, a shovel, a wheelbarrow and an idea. Fascinatingly enough, nothing was planned on paper. Baldassare eventually dug over one hundred chambers, passageways, courts and patios beneath the hard pan soil. There are even fruit-bearing trees that have been planted underground and can be seen protruding through the openings at ground level. In 1979 the Underground Garden was designated a California Registered Historical Landmark. Tours usually run from Wednesday through Friday, 11 AM to 4 PM; Saturday and Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM. However, their schedule is subject to change. Adult tickets are $19.
Engelmann Cellars
Fresno is lucky enough to be home to a number of great local wineries. Engelmann Cellars is a perfect example. You and your partner can enjoy wine tastings from 12 pm – 5 pm every Saturday and Sunday at the facility year round. There is also live music every Sunday from 1 pm – 4 pm. You can pack a little picnic and make it a date, since they do allow outside food. During the summer, Engelmann has Friday Night Wine Tasting, where they invite tribute bands to perform, food trucks come out and (of course) wine will be available for purchase. Tickets range from $10 – $15 depending on the performer or event.
Fresno Chaffee Zoo
It’s easy to take the zoo for granted if you’ve lived in Fresno all of your life. But did you know that the Fresno Chaffee Zoo is one out of only thirty zoos in the entire state of California? It covers 39 acres and houses over 190 species. It’s no wonder that as of 2015, it’s one of the most visited zoos in the entire United States. In terms of experiences, you really can’t beat the ones offered here. From the Roo Walkabout (an Australian walk-through exhibit featuring kangaroos, emus and kookaburras) all the way to the Sea Lion Cove (an award-winning sea lion exhibit that even includes a 35 foot underwater viewing window where you can watch the sea lions swim). Research suggests that couples who try new things together, are happier. So why not take the chance to experience an African Adventure together in the comfort of your own backyard?
